Don’t Ever Update Your Billing Information From an Email Link
My mother, ever the Facebook story pusher, posted a note about a scam involving fake Netflix emails that are prompting people to update their payment information.
It reminded me how important it is to verify ANYTHING that has your payment (or even personal) information before you press any link or update any information.
For some reason, I get a lot of “do you think this is a scam” calls from friends and family. And my response is always, did you click on any links?
Technology is getting more and more sophisticated as the days go by, and that means scammers and other cybercriminals have a ton of tools at their fingertips to help them scam you better.
So when it comes to getting an email saying we’re having trouble processing your payment, please update your billing information, NEVER CLICK THE LINK.
What do you do instead?
Look, no one wants to have the popcorn ready and the mood lighting on, buried deep under a pile of covers ready to see Jon Snow’s full-frontal scene in the latest GoT episode only to find out your eye candy has to be delayed 15 minutes because your billing information needs to be updated.
