Here’s What Working on the Beach Really Looks Like
I hope you like sand in your a$$ crack, a blinding glare on your screen and screaming children in your office!
There is this dream “digital nomad/freelance” life that exists on Instagram (an likely only on Instagram) that everyone seems to want to achieve.
It looks a little something like this — bikini-clad beauty (possibly with a trendy wrap), sipping a tropical drink (probably organic and natural), lounging on a beach chair with her laptop in front of her.
Sounds pretty grand, doesn’t it? And super impractical.
Despite the ridiculousness of the concept, I was in Ixtapa, Mexico earlier this year and I decided to give this whole beach-freelancing-dream concept into a reality.
Let’s just say I Insta-failed. Sadly there is no photographic evidence… purely by accident 😉
Let’s just say the beach is not a great place to work
I managed to live this dream life for about 45-minutes before I was out.
Beyond the obvious technical hazards — water on your computer, sand in the laptop keys (thankfully, I was lucky), there’s the complete impracticality of having your laptop on the beach…
