How The Orville Made Me Fall In Love With Sci-Fi Again

Hello everyone. My name’s Tae and I am a sci-fi addict. Or at least, I used to be.

One of my earliest childhood memories is wandering around my house in my Star Trek pyjamas (thank you, mom) with one of those hard-backed moon-shaped hair bands over my eyes and telling everyone I worked on the USS Enterprise. Full disclosure, I also played Batman and Robin — but that’s another story for another time.

I sat, glued to the television, at the age of 4 (no, this is not a joke) watching my favourite crew travel through space fighting bad guys and solving real-world problems. Granted, at 4 I didn’t really know what the real world problems were, but it made an impact none-the-less.

But somewhere along the line, I forgot all about sci-fi. All of those adventures I had while sitting on the coffee table, eyes glued to the 20-something inch television with the huge boxy black back were fast forgotten by the rise of my interest in make-up, boys and being cool (though, I was never actually cool). Then came Crime Scene Investigation, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, and MTV, and just like that, my love of sci-fi was gone. Forgotten.

The New Star Trek, Discovery

One of my favourite things about Star Trek: The Next Generation (it was my favourite)…

Wildly unpopular, mildly inappropriate (or is it the other way around?). Podcast, blogger @ TheFreelanceHustle.com, HelloTaee.com & TheModsPixie.com
