Stop Re-posting About the ‘Instagram Rule Deadline’ It Doesn’t Exist

And even if it did, it wouldn’t matter because we all agreed to Terms of Service

Nothing starts tomorrow. There is no deadline. And even if you repost this handy-dandy little screenshot, it ain’t gonna do nothin’.

Social media privacy hoaxes

At least once a year, thousands if not tens of thousands of social media users fall for privacy hoaxes. Whether it be on Facebook, Instagram or other social media platforms, users copy and paste or re-post a screenshot declaring that a social media company does not have their permission to use their information.

The thing is, these are not real. There are currently no “rule changes” that would affect how your photos are used according to Instagram. And even if there was, it wouldn’t matter because re-posting something on your social media page doesn’t trump the Terms of Service agreement that you already agreed to.

When you signed up for that social media account you’re currently trying to fortify with a poorly typed, misspelled and inaccurate screenshot, you probably clicked right through the Terms of Service, or in Instagram’s case it’s called a Terms of Use, that governs how the information you give to them and what you post is used. If you’re concerned about your privacy, I would highly encourage you to read their Terms of Use.
